Professor Richard Brestoff will present at the inaugural Theatre Teacher Summit

Professor of Acting Richard Brestoff will present at the inaugural Theatre Teacher Summit, a 2-day conference with inspirational training sessions from renowned acting teachers, authors and industry professionals taking place Nov. 12-13 online. 

Brestoff will present on Nov. 13 for “Thinking In Character: Bringing Soul To the Roles You Play.” The talk will cover how the actor truly inhabits the characters they play. Using the Gettysburg Address, Brestoff will reveal how he came to understand that it is a masterpiece of character thinking (the character being Lincoln) and not how some have perceived it as a monotonous speech. He will detail how he uncovered Lincoln’s true purpose in making the speech and the path to acting it. 

Brestoff is the Head of Acting in the Department of Drama. He had a 20-year career as a working actor in theater, film and television before coming to the University of California, Irvine. Brestoff has published 6 books on acting, including The Camera Smart Actor, Acting Under the Circumstances, The Actor’s Wheel of Connection and The Great Acting Teachers and Their Methods volumes 1 & 2. Brestoff earned his M.F.A. in Acting at New York University (NYU), where he trained under Olympia Dukakis, Peter Kass, Ron Van Lieu and Kristin Linklater.
